2006 is here giving us a clean slate and an
opportunity to create a great year. How are you
planning on going about it? Are you going to use the
same strategies as you did in the past?
Many of us tend to do the same thing every year
getting us similar results. Maybe it’s the resolutions
that we don’t keep or the big goals that we can’t
seem to achieve. Perhaps you make a list of things
to accomplish and actually do it. You might even
plan your year and have it work out each time.
The important thing at this time is to ask yourself if
you are being the person you want to be. Do the
things you want to achieve support you in being that
person? If they do, then absolutely set them as
goals. If not, ask yourself why you have that as a
goal or resolution.
If your vision is to be a healthier person, what are
the habits that that person would have? Base your
decisions around becoming something rather than
stopping something you like or starting something
you don’t like. Enjoy the process of being a healthy
person rather than hating the stair master or
depriving yourself of tasty foods.
If you are a compulsive project starter like me, how
about finishing a few? Some people don’t need to
take on more. They need to take things off their
plate. If you always accomplish everything you set
out to do, it may be time to look at why you
undertake so much. Is it actually serving you in
being the person you want to be or is the
accomplishing or busy-ness just making you feel
significant?
Whatever your situation, this is a time of reflection.
Use this opportunity to observe yourself and grow.
