Body Talk with Kristin Peterson

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and the BodyTalk System, my name is Kristin Peterson.  I am a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner, a Certified Acupuncturist, a soon to be Registered Massage Therapist, and have a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine.

I was very intrigued with this amazing system and began taking courses to learn the BodyTalk System in November of 2008.  I passed my certification exam in June of 2009 and am proud to be a CBP.  I have completed 7 of the 9 core Modules including Modules 1 & 2, 3, 4/7, 6, and 9, along with Access, MindScape, BreakThrough 1, Advanced Modules 1 & 2, BodyTalk Interactive and FreeFall 1.

History of BodyTalk

The BodyTalk System was founded in 1998 in Sarasota, Florida by Dr. John Veltheim.  Prior to moving to America, John was a chiropractor, acupuncturist, Reiki master, author, philosopher, and principle of the Brisbane College of Acupuncture & Natural Therapies in Australia.  He developed the BodyTalk System after much research in kinesiology, osteopathy, sports medicine, bio-energetic therapy, theology, and counseling and comparative philosophy.  BodyTalk is currently being practiced in over 42 countries with translations in 11 different languages.  Today, there are over 2000 BodyTalk practitioners along with 80+ BodyTalk instructors worldwide.

“In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy.”  - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

What is BodyTalk?Mind Body Soul

BodyTalk is a non-invasive holistic healthcare system.  “Holistic means
having all aspects of your body, mind, and spirit in a state of balance,
harmony, and wellness” (Lutz).  BodyTalk is a form of energy medicine that helps re-establish communication within the systems of the body to promote healing.  BodyTalk is based on the principle that the body is capable of
healing itself. This principle is shown by the healing process that occurs automatically when a person cuts a finger or twists an ankle.

According to Bell’s Theorem, every single cell in your body is in constant communication with every other cell in the body at all times. This means that every part of your body is working together and no single body part can
function independently. When we experience the stresses of everyday life,
our body’s communication system can be compromised causing a state of disharmony or imbalance.  This state of imbalance can manifest in the form
of symptoms like chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, breathing problems, cancer, and so on.

When we have a cut, our body begins to heal it automatically -- it sends blood cells to the area, begins to form a clot to stop the bleeding, and so on.  So when we have more serious illnesses and pain, why doesn’t the body begin to heal itself in a similar manner?  The reason is because most of us are overloaded with stress which puts us into survival mode (fight or flight). This can happen as a result of living with financial stress, health concerns, family issues, news reports, etc. BodyTalk helps bring the body out of "emergency" mode and back into its natural healing state.  When we repair the damaged communication links within the body, all kinds of unhealthy symptoms can be alleviated.  Unhealthy symptoms are simply the body’s way of saying it needs help.  BodyTalk helps to highlight the areas in the body that need to be focused on and speeds up the recovery process.

BodyTalk can be used to assist with different conditions such as headaches/migraines, insomnia, phobias, stress/anxiety, depression, viruses/infections, chronic fatigue, injuries, pain, digestive disorders, allergies, belief systems and recovery from surgery, just to name a few. It can be used as a stand alone system or can be seamlessly integrated with other modalities and forms of healthcare.

How I found BodyTalk

I was introduced to BodyTalk at the end of my Junior year of college.  I had been having symptoms of bloating, constipation, and fatigue for a couple months.  I had tests done when I returned home for the summer and was blindsided with the diagnosis of cancer.  A nurse had suggested BodyTalk and at that point, my parents and I were willing to try anything.  While doctors could not figure out what the large mass in my abdomen actually was, my practitioner continued to balance to my right ovary.  It turns out that my practitioner was right when the doctors removed a 5 pound, football size, malignant tumor that was my right ovary and fallopian tube.  I received regular BodyTalk sessions which almost completely reduced my pain -- I stopped using morphine less than 24 hours following my surgery and the nurses and doctors were amazed!  I also had an extremely fast recovery from my surgery and responded well to my 3 cycles of chemo that totaled 9 weeks.  I went back to college exactly 3 months from the day of diagnosis.

BodyTalk helped me to deal with the stresses and the anxiety of cancer and it helped me come out on top!  Since, it has also helped me manage the stresses of everyday life.  It has helped me perform better on exams, interviews, in sports and has helped with recovery from injuries.  BodyTalk helps me deal with stress, feel more relaxed, confident, and comfortable in my own skin. BodyTalk has helped me come a long way that could have otherwise taken years on my own. I want to share this amazing system with others as my way of giving back.

What to ExpectBody Talk Session

A session typically lasts from 30 to 45 minutes.  For a session, you would lie down, fully clothed, on a massage table.  All you need to do is breathe and relax while I use your wrist to get yes/no answers from biofeedback to see what your body needs balanced.  In some instances, many imbalances are corrected in one session; however, once those have been addressed there are usually deeper issues that need to be balanced out as well.   We encourage commitment to 3 sessions initially to help clients see the value in BodyTalk and the changes it can produce.  Maintenance sessions are also important as the stresses of everyday life build up, like I said earlier, and can cause new communication glitches that need to be restored.

BodyTalk has a built in safety mechanism called Permissions.  Permissions help us as practitioners to make sure that it is appropriate for us to facilitate BodyTalk to our clients at that time. In some cases, this can help us if our client needs to seek medical attention or another modality.

Some people ask if BodyTalk has any side effects.  Side effects can include fatigue and dehydration.  I recommend to clients that they drink some extra water for 24 hours following a session.  This helps to flush the system of any toxins (whether they be viruses, thoughts, or emotions) that were balanced during the session.  Fatigue may occur to get you to take some time for yourself.  While we sleep, our body is doing the most processing.  Often after a BodyTalk session, our bodies have a lot to process which is why we feel tired.

The success that has been seen with BodyTalk is truly amazing!  Anyone who has had a BodyTalk session will tell you that the benefits are worth so much more than the price of a session!
