Chiropractic Care Following a Motor Vehicle Accident
By Dr. Eric Wiens, DC
Motor vehicle accidents happen every day, yet most don't understand the damage that can happen to their body.
Studies show that even minor impacts of 12 km/h can cause significant damage to the spine and nervous system. Even with today's rigorous auto safety standards.
Many feel uninjured after an accident and get told at the scene or hospital they are fine, but suffer greatly weeks, months or even years later. This is because they never received an appropriate examination or treatment to help their body heal back to where it was before the accident.
A typical exam at the scene or at Emergency is to make sure there is nothing life threatening. That's it. I get told countless times "I was told I was okay at Emergency. Why do I hurt so much now?" days, weeks or even months after an injury. This is because these Emergency services are not there to provide the care needed beyond a life threatening situation.
As a Chiropractor, I'm trained to perform a comprehensive exam to locate problems and take care of them, allowing you to recover as quickly and as fully as possible. This means determining how you were affected by the accident and getting you back to where you were before as quickly as possible.
Soft tissues, that is anything except bone, are the majority of injuries from car accidents. Ironically enough, these are very poorly understood and are often minimized by insurance and medical people.
The effects of these injuries can be long term and can be devastating to the way you feel or perform. Typically, they get worse and worse if ignored or not taken care of properly. It doesn't have to be this way.
Please call our office immediately if you or someone you know has been in an accident. The quicker you receive a thorough exam and proper care, the quicker your injuries will heal and you can get on with your life.
