Re-Energize on Four Levels and Get Your Spring Groove On

by Dr. Paul Newton

Spring is coming and as the season shifts we start to change our plans, activities and perspectives.  As winter melts away and things start to come back to life we begin to feel a need to do the same.  It is a time to come out of our resting mode and clean up the residue left around us and within us from winter.

As you get ready for spring, look at your life on these four levels and take action to boost your energy.

Physically

Have you been a bit sluggish?  Do you need to move your body?  Add some activity to your life.  Maybe you need something cardiovascular like brisk walking or running.  You might want to try some stretching and strengthening through Yoga or Pilates.  You can get into a routine at the gym or take a class.  Perhaps you need to do something outdoors to get natural light and fresh air.  Whatever you do, whatever your activity level, a change in activity will shift your energy.

How is your environment?  Are there thing that need to be put away, thrown out or cleaned up.  What job or task has been nagging at you for a while and needs taking care of?  Take care of it and feel the energy it liberates for you.

Emotionally

Write a list of all the emotions you experience (ie. Happiness, joy, anger, frustration, love etc).  Circle the ones you experience the most.  How do you feel looking at this list?  Would you like to spend more time experiencing some emotions and less time in others?

Pay attention to each time you experience an emotion.  Stop yourself, take a deep breath and decide if this is something you like feeling or not.  Pay particular attention to what is triggering this emotional reaction in you.  Could you choose a different reaction?  Would it serve you better to respond differently?

Observing your emotional reactions allows you to see that it is your response to something outside of you.  If you could choose how to feel most of the time, what would you prefer to feel?  Direct your energy to the emotions you enjoy and feel how energizing this can be!

Mentally

The human mind has the capacity for an inordinate number of thoughts daily.  The problem is that most days we think exactly the same boring thoughts.  When put to use, the mind has tremendous creative power.  Directing your thoughts towards things you want to achieve always has positive results.
